About

Vintage UNIX and K&R C programmer since 1974. Taught myself C from mimeographed sheets , this was way before the Whitebook existed so far back. In the 1960s programmed on the IBM 1620 with FORTRAN with Format (pre FORTRAN 4), with FORTRAN on Hollerith 80 col. punched cards. DON'T DROP THE DECK ! And then pairs of IBM 360/60 to process our sensor and D/F data in as near real-time as it could happen. Later around 1979/1980 I was doing system design In 2000 I was forced to retire from injuries. Since then Radio Astronomy. When Linux decided to remove the standard UNIX init bootstrap method with systemd (2015 ?) they broke my software so I am in pursuit of a real K&R (Whitebook 1st Ed) C compiler that will compile unmodified K&R C. So far all compilers tested no longer can do this. Once I have vintage UNIX (AT&T) "up"; Linux will get the chop. But having to do this is one waste of time and keeps us away from the real "job" which is Skywave Radio. While I wait I am "playing with Lex and Yacc compiled from the source [PDP-11 V7 C source] with a "few" hacks to get it to run on this AMD 64bit multi-core. If nothing else this keeps me brain from addling! Keep smiling and 73s, OBB
