As implied here, edit ~/.config/kwinrc, adding the following lines to the bottom. [ModifierOnlyShortcuts] Meta= Then restart kwin with kwin_x11 --replace & disown.

Since plasma5's modularization the config files are not saved in a single folder anymore. You will find different files in ~/.config (typically ending with .rc) and some other parts in ~/.local (e.g. plasma themes). The plasmoids are saved in "~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc". It also saves the folder view desktop and the kickoff launcher....

You can remove the password from the wallet. Start the kwalletmanager and then click on »change password«. disable the wallet. Start the kwalletmanager and go to settings / configure wallet. Uncheck the box »Enable the KDE wallet subsystem«.

With some hints from here, I managed to get the following to work: script=/path/to/script num=$(dbus-send --print-reply --dest=org.kde.kwin.Scripting \ /Scripting \ org.kde.kwin.Scripting.loadScript \ string:"$script" | awk 'END {print $2}' ) dbus-send --print-reply --dest=org.kde.kwin.Scripting \ /$num \ org.kde.kwin.Scripting.run

Set QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME="qt5ct" andQT_PLUGIN_PATH=$HOME/.kde4/lib/kde4/plugins/:/usr/lib/kde4/plugins/ Use qt5ct to set a theme. I set it like that in my .xprofile: if [ "$XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP" = "i3" ]; then export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME="qt5ct" export QT_PLUGIN_PATH=$HOME/.kde4/lib/kde4/plugins/:/usr/lib/kde4/plugins/ fi

Look in ~/.config for a file named plasm-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc. It will contain something like: [Containments][25][Applets][35][Configuration][General] applicationName=GNU Emacs 24 genericName=Text Editor iconName=/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/partitionmanager.svg url=file:///usr/share/applications/emacs24.desktop Change the IconName ...

I've managed to fix this by going to System Settings -> Applications -> Web Browser and setting parameter Open http and https URLs to in the following browser -> firefox This works with KDE 5, but should work similar in previous versions.

Connect to network with secret on boot By default, NetworkManager will not connect to networks requiring a secret automatically on boot. This is because it locks such connections to the user who makes it by default, only connecting after they have logged in. To change this, do the following: Right click on the nm-applet icon in your panel and ...

You should use journalctl...one of the best things about systemd is that all the logs are in one place...gone are the days of searching for files. try: journalctl -f | grep --line-buffered kde I also recomend this article. Shows all the great things you can do with jounralctl.

Battery information is provided to desktop environments by UPower; this includes the battery information for some keyboards and mice. You can see what your computer knows about its batteries by running upower --dump For example, on my desktop with a wireless Logitech mouse, it shows (among other things) Device: /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/...

Make sure you've correctly identified the class name of the window you're trying to construct a rule for. By convention, window class names are capitalized. You can use the program xprop to discover the correct class name. As an example, for this terminal program I have open, xprop prints out: WM_CLASS(STRING) = "x-terminal-emulator", "URxvt" The first ...

sudo pacman -Rdd kwallet Worked for me

The name of the executable your looking for is called plasma-desktop. I would try it out first, and if your satisfied with the results, then set it to autostart. You are required to install a good chunk of the KDE dependencies to make it happen, but should not have a problem running just the plasmoids. I will say this, plasmoids are the best desktop ...

I had similar problems and found this somewhat related bugtracker entry. There doesn't seem to be a convincing solution, I work around this by faking my desktop environment to be KDE. Give adding XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=KDE to your .xprofile a try and see what happens.

According to some similar existing bugs on KDE forums, Xinerama can break kde-plasma5, so if you have Xinerama enabled in Xorg's config file (in /etc/X11/xorg.conf ) , try to disable it. It will be in the Section "ServerLayout" : Option "Xinerama" "1" So if you have the line like above, change the value to zero: Option "Xinerama" "0"

This is fault with the tool tip generation in Plasma. Disabling Tooltips in Taskbar settings fixed the problem.

The solution by @Horus is also covered in the Arch Linux wiki: Configuration of Qt5 apps under environments other than KDE Plasma Another solution is provided by the qt5ct package, which provides a DE independent Qt5 QPA and a configuration utility. After installing the package, run qt5ct to set an icon theme, and set the environment variable ...

Why not just use the graphical user interface? If you haven't locked your widgets, click on ☰ normally found at the end of the Plasma panel, and then on More Settings. You'll now see an option to Remove Panel. If you have locked your widgets, ☰ won't be available in the panel. Click on a free space on your desktop and then press Alt+D followed by L to make ...

Thanks to the comment by @EmmanuelRosa, I have found a solution. sudo apt-get install gtk3-engines-oxygen Go to System Settings → Application Appearance → GTK → Select a GTK3 Theme set it to oxygen-gtx The menu is now in oxygen theme, with a glow border. Some menus (the ones that had a border before, still have a single pixel border, some have both borders,...

You can create or edit ~/.config/kwalletrc with the following content: [Wallet] Enabled=false This has the advantage of not requiring to install kwalletmanager just to disable it.

Try dnf groupinstall mate-compiz (I got this by running dnf grouplist -v). That will install all of the packages that are part of the MATE desktop environment, rather than just the mate-desktop package, which (even tithe name suggests more) is just this: Name : mate-desktop [...] Summary : Shared code for mate-panel, mate-session, mate-file-...

It would help if you also included a transcript of what is going wrong (i.e., what commands are breaking with exactly what error messages). That said, you can usually fix things up by just reinstalling all the packages you might need. So for example you could say: pacman -Syu pacman -S --needed base xorg-server xorg-server-utils plasma-meta That should ...

This bug was fixed in Plasma 5.6.1: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343369 I would highly recommend you to upgrade to a newer version (preferably 16.04) as 15.10 has reached its end of life: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases NOTE: kubuntu always use older versions of Plasma and installing the backports ppa brings it more up to date. However, if you ...

If your window manager has an option to say where new windows are spawned, try selecting "spawn at the mouse cursor" or some such. Alternatively, there are a couple other ways to accomplish what you want. One of them is to use a more configurable window manager, such as one of the many tiling window managers available for Linux. But that's a bit of a ...

There is no KDE Plasma 5.12. Judging by the screenshot, you're referring to KDE Plasma 5.3 or older. In the upcoming KDE Plasma 5.4 release the clock tooltip has slightly improved in terms of "timezones having a different date" as the date will now be just shown by default: I agree that having something with a visual representation of the timezones would ...

KDE stores its mimetype mappings in ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list, so you might want to have a look at that file. Each line containe a mimetype followed by an = and the application to use, for example: application/xml=kde4-kwrite.desktop You can also change these associations with the kcmshell4 tool (see also): kcmshell4 filetypes

In my case this seemed to be a problem with baloo indexing, as well. When renaming the folder ~/.local/share/baloo krunner works fine again.

1

@G-Man: Sorry, cannot comment below.. rep must be over 50? O.o Anyway: I solved my problem. I narrowed it down to the folder ~/.local/share/baloo When the folder is removed/moved I can search for everything. When the folder is present it crashes at the second char. Maybe you have the same problem.
