I reinstalled (Fedora 37) system and restored some vital files to my home directory by using rsync's --archive flag. Potentially after replacing some .bash* files new terminal sessions were closed immediately; after rebooting both GDM and tty3 revert back to the initial login prompt when entering the correct credentials (no output of any kind).

I'm certain that I'm using the same username as on the previous system, (if this is relevant, regarding permissions). Fedora doesn't appear to support root login of-the-box, doesn't recognize the user.

Are there feasible solutions outside of booting a live system and attempt to fix the permissions using chroot?
