So i have been doing research on learning pam moduel in linux system. And i come across some online resource explaining how pam moudle works. And one of the line is
account required pam_unix.so
This module performs any necessary account verification. For example, if shadow passwords have been enabled, the account component of the pam_unix.so module checks to see if the account has expired or if the user has not changed the password within the grace period allowed.
And that make sense. But my question is when i tried to put password instead of account in my common-password module folder under /etc/pam.d
what does it do ? Because i put
password required pam_unix.so debug
and it is debugging for any password change operation which is good. But i have trouble understanding this module. thanks
