Qemu is new software for me but I want to use existing VM from disk image. So what was done:

  • Bridge was added ho host OS (Ubuntu 20)

  • I installed qemu-kvm

  • VM was launched with this command

    virt-install --name=test11-vm --os-type=generic --vcpu=2 --ram=512 --disk /home/test11/rename.qcow2,format=qcow2 --boot hd --network bridge:br0 --graphics=vnc --console pty,target_type=serial -v

And my questions are:

  • How can I launch it like a service (in background)?
  • How can I get an access to VM's console from host?

Thanks in advance.

Just install libvirt as a layer above qemu/kvm: this will save you a lot of efforts.

  • I realize late that virt-install means libvirt (or related parts) is (are) probably installed. If not it should be. virt-manager (provided from same sources as virt-install) has GUI settings and features to address the two bullets.
