git-annex is a great way to keep big stuff under (distributed) version control. I'd also like to do that with my images. Currently I'm using digiKam as my photo management tool.

By itself this works fine as long as my images are present in my local git-annex repository, my thumbnails get generated and I'm able to work with it as I would expect. But as soon as I drop some of my files in git-annex, digiKam automatically removes the corresponding thumbnails (since they appear as broken symlinks).

I'm aware that this is desired behavior in most cases - but not when dealing with git-annex repositories. Therefore I'd like to know if there is an option to prohibit this automatic removal of thumbnails for specific folders or albums.

Any ideas? Is that even possible?
