I am wondering how can I create a program ( e.g. VS Code) desktop shortcut on Kal Linux Gnome interface. So that I click the desktop shortcut and the program runs. Unfortunately, I cannot find this information anywhere in the system or the internet, anybody have any ideas?

Have you tried a right click "Add to desktop"?

  • I don't have any option like that. When I right-click on any app shortcut in "show programs" section, the only options I have are "New Window" and "Add to favorites". And when I do the same with shortcut in "Favourites" section, I can choose "New Window" and "Delete from favourites".

Here is how I Created shortcut for texstudio on Kali Linux.

Open the terminal and write the following command

nano /home/docho/Desktop/texstudio.desktop

then write the following on the opened nano (do not write .)

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Exec=/usr/bin/texstudio
Name=TexStudio
Comment=TexStudio_4.7.3
Icon=/home/docho/Downloads/texstudio_icon.png

press ctrl o to save the file and ctrl x to exit

After creating the desktop shortcut, right-click on it and press "Allow launching"

that is it! enjoy
