I'm trying to use scp to transfer a file from a server (which, admittedly, I know not much about) to my local machine. I ssh'ed into the server, and used pwd in the directory of the file to be sure I had it down correctly. Then, I used pwd in the directory of my local machine where I'd like to place the file, just to be sure.

I ran scp myusername@server.com:/path/to/file/file.txt /path/to/local/directory.

I didn't get any error messages, only export SROOTBASE="/cvmfs/servername.org/py2-v2".

When I looked for the file on my local machine, nothing was to be found. I then tried searching for it by name, and still found nothing. What's going on here?

  • Did you try running with -v to see what's going on? You may also find rsync to be more robust than scp – user1794469 Oct 5 '20 at 23:52
