Unnamed semaphores can be shared between processes using shared memory. Can these semaphores be shared with a guest kernel as well?

Imagine you have a Linux host acting as hypervisor, running a Linux guest through KVM. It has shared memory mapped into it (shared between host and guest). Can a semaphore be allocated within this memory block to achieve communication/synchronization between the host and guest kernel?

Or is a semaphore a kernel concept, requiring usage within the same kernel?
