I am searching for the secure and best way to live backup a kvm virtual machine. This VM will contain a database, the good news is that the backup will be run at night when there will be virtually no access to the database.

I've searched the net, and found some scripts that use the suspend command, which does not suit me.

I created my own script with these parameters using https://wiki.libvirt.org/page/Live-disk-backup-with-active-blockcommit:

virsh snapshot-create-as --domain vm1 guest-state1 --diskspec vda,file=/export/images/overlay1.qcow2 --disk-only --atomic --quiesce --no-metadata

cp --sparse=always /export/images/vm1-disk.qcow2 /mnt/backup/vm1-disk.qcow2

My concern is about the RAM, do I have to backup the RAM? or does the --quiesce parameter insures that the backup taken is synced?
