I have a Python3 CRUD app that I've been using on by BSD VPS that started giving me the following error yesterday.

ImportError: /usr/local/lib/python3.6/lib-dynload/readline.so: Undefined symbol "rl_callback_sigcleanup"

The only change I seem to recall making was that I upgraded the MariaDB minor version. I can't seem to get this to go away, whether I try removing and reinstalling readline in pip or by going through the ports tree (not using pkg because removing that readline would cause too much disruption to other software)

Any advice on how I can make this usable again?

  • Where did you get that readline.so file? – arrowd Jul 27 at 7:09
  • what does nm -D /usr/local/lib/libreadline.so | grep rl_callback_sigcleanup say? – mosvy Jul 27 at 8:41
  • @mosvy 000000000003dc80 T rl_callback_sigcleanup – cjm Jul 28 at 2:23
  • @arrowd Not sure if it's using something installed by pip, pkg, the ports tree, or built into the system. – cjm Jul 28 at 2:24
  • @cjm Did readline get upgraded when you upgraded MariaDB? If so, try reinstalling python - this should build a new lib-dynload/readline module linked against the new libreadline. – D_Bye Jul 30 at 11:37
