I'm super-confused with the graphics driver stuff. For quite some time I used my onboard graphics card and I think that ran with the nouveau drivers. Like a year ago I purchased a GeForce GT 710 and I don't need the onboard stuff because of that.

For a while now it feels like the visual stuff isn't smooth any more, e.g. scrolling down in the browser is stuttering a bit. With the history above I don't know if my system works at its best or something is a bottleneck or configured wrong or the onboard graphics interferes with nVidia or ...

I heard that for nVidia it's better to use their native drivers and not nouveau. Is that true? It's still somewhat installed, but used?

Of course there are so many commands that could be useful, but I don't want my machine to die on me. I'd be f-word-ed if the GUI won't start any more...
