Is there a way to decompress gz files in the directory, sub-directory and then add them back to a new gz archive with the same directory and sub-directory structures.

There are more than 8k files and compressed files are more than 80 GB. After I decompress it will be around 2 TB. How can this be done without using much memory and storage?

Can the decompression and the compression be done simultaneously?

  • you probably mean tgz or tar.gz ? And I don't understand your first sentence. Maybe add an example. – pLumo May 22 at 13:38
