I'm unable to turn off the back light of the keyboard on my Asus FX503 laptop. I've tried every solutions available on the internet including xset, etc. Ubuntu 18.04 is installed. I've asked the same question on askubuntu but could not get any solution.

Did this laptop come with a version of Windows installed? Did the Asus utilities allow you to turn off the backlight in Windows? What I am getting at is are you sure the backlight can be turned off? It sounds strange, but maybe Asus made these "always on" for this model? – 0xSheepdog May 9 at 20:25
