I have installed syslinux (and pxelinux) from my distro's package manager and am using it with tftpd-hpa. To get it to work, I must copy the files installed by the package manager to the tftproot directory.

This is unpleasant in my view as any future updates to the syslinux packages must be manually copied to the tftproot directory, however I cannot just symlink to the files because tftpd-hpa will not follow links outside of the tftproot directory. Is there a more elegant solution?

  • You should specify your distribution: there are probably distribution specific methods. eg on Debian creating some pseudo package for the sake of using triggers: wiki.debian.org/DpkgTriggers (page is a bit outdated...) – A.B Mar 11 at 20:19
