I installed pure-ftpd as ftp server and I need to use it with apache web server.

What I've done is:

  • Created a ftp user and added to group www-data with this command useradd -d /dev/null -g www-data -s /bin/false ftp
  • Added a new user to pure-ftpd and related it to ftp user with this command pure-pw useradd new-ftpuser -u ftp -g www-data -d /var/www/

Everything works except that the user does not have rights to write /var/www folder.

So i created new folder in /var/www (called httdocs), changed group owner to www-data, and changed permissions to 775.
Now the ftp user can upload file inside the httdocs folder.

Is this correct or am I doing something wrong?
