Since the beginning, no matter what setting I put, the laptop doesn't always go to sleep and stay asleep. Most often than not, it wakes up to the lock screen. But this also happens after I switch user and land on the login screen, starting from the lock screen. Usually it stays asleep for less than 5 seconds.

I tried many setting combinations:

  • Suspend closing the lid
  • With the "night key"
  • Setting "go to sleep" on the power button
  • Changing the time so that the screensaver kick in before or after lock screen
  • Disabling the lock screen startup app

I have a new ThinkPad 52 and I only have Mate installed on it, so it's not easy for me to test other OSes.
