I'm in the need of: a) a folder based encryption mechanism like securefs, encfs on my USB key b) cross platform (linux and windows) c) has the binary on the USB as I can't have install software on at work d) allows me to store the encrypted folers on Nextcloud too (this is why I want folder based rather than file/container based)

It looks like the only solution that would tick all the above boxes (except a & d) is Veracrypt? As I believe you have to have the securefs binay installed at OS level on windows machines? Any other alternatives?

I've done a bit more research and it appears that Veracrypt can only be used if you have admin privileges which means that this is not suitable option for using at work.
