After installing updates on my Arch Linux installation, the boot loader is unable to find the boot device anymore. It says something along the lines of "Waiting for /dev/disk/by-uuid/..." and ultimately fails and drops me into an emergency shell.

The disk works just fine and I can still dual-boot the Windows installation on it. The Arch Linux ISO shows the same behaviour, but I was able to boot SystemRescueCD ISO into an emergency system. From there, I downgraded the kernel package and linux-firmware package - unfortunately to no avail.

All in all, my problem looks a lot like this question except that I already tried the proposed solution but without success.

  • Did you check if the UUID are still found as actually devices? Match the UUID stated in /etc/default/grub and/or /etc/fstab against the output of the command blkid. – rowan Jan 11 at 9:45
