Can linux users affect how programs are developed? E.g. forums where you can make suggestions or report problems - not just bugs but also cases where the default behavior of old basic tools has been changed to unintuitive and less usable.

Many projects allow feature requests, often as part of their bug tracker. For older projects, patches are preferred. – jasonwryan Nov 28 '18 at 17:57

Or you can also submit code, join mailing lists. I am not convinced developers look to user forums for feature requests – Panther Nov 28 '18 at 18:17

  • Concerning DE and tools. I just got 2 new linux installations and adjusting things and tracing reasons for strange/slow behaviour has been more worksome than ever, even with old tools like emacs. – whamalai Dec 1 '18 at 14:14
