Here are the drivers I have present on the system.

Any ideas why my intel_drv.so isn't showing up and getting loaded?


IIRC drivers only load if they are needed for the hardware. Your Xorg log shows your X is configured to prefer the modesetting driver (which deals with intel hardware through a kernel module), and this driver loads fine. So there's no need for the intel driver (and it wouldn't work anyway if the modesetting driver is active at the same time).

  • This changed after updating the kernel. With 4.9, Xorg wanted intel_drv. After upgrading to 4.14, it want's modesetting. After creating a custom conf file that uses Driver "intel", it works. What do you mean by "modesetting active"? At a kernel level, or just in Xorg? – Paul Knopf Sep 28 '18 at 11:46
  • The reason why I'm trying to use intel_drv it because after updating my kernel, I have unwanted scan lines (vsync issues) on the displays that weren't there previously. – Paul Knopf Sep 28 '18 at 11:47
