I have recently downloaded and installed Ruiner from Steam and on my machine it does not run as smooth as it supposed to, given the requirements the game needs. The game lags incredibly even at low graphics settings making the game experience impossible. I am looking for a way to improve my graphics card performances. On my laptop I have the GPU Radeon R7 M260/M265 (see below for more details) and I have installed the latest kernel. Is there a way to improve game performances? In case Linux Mint 18.3 cannot improve the gaming performances given my graphics card, is it possible to improve them by installing a different distro that has better compatibility with GPU? In case it is, which one could be the best candidate in terms of compatibility and user friendliness?

here the details on my AMD GPU: https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-r7-series/amd-radeon-r7-200-series/amd-radeon-r7-m260

By running the command inxi -Fxz, my specs are the following.

  • I HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION. Linux Mint fails to start my discrete GPU running the game poorly with the Intel GPU. I found that by forcing the game to start with my discrete GPU through the command DRI_PRIME=1 %command% under the steam settings "game properties>general>set launch options...", the game runs smoothly. For the sake of completeness, I have mesa-utils drivers installed through the latest kernel and I use PRIME command to switch to my AMD Radeon R7 M260/M265 GPU. – Alessio_110 Sep 7 '18 at 15:44
