On OpenBSD, I need to install sharp, which require the vips library.

When I use a prebaked vips tarball,

If I use gcc or clang compiler (switching the CC and C++ variables at configure step), it gives the same result.

If I try to compile using direct source code, I get stopped at the autogen step (right at the beginning so).

Here the main trouble is probably that:

swig/vipsCC/Makefile.am:32: error: Libtool library used but 'LIBTOOL' is undefined
swig/vipsCC/Makefile.am:32: The usual way to define 'LIBTOOL' is to add 'LT_INIT'
swig/vipsCC/Makefile.am:32: to 'configure.ac' and run 'aclocal' and 'autoconf' again.
swig/vipsCC/Makefile.am:32: If 'LT_INIT' is in 'configure.ac', make sure
swig/vipsCC/Makefile.am:32: its definition is in aclocal's search path.

Basically a lot troubles about LT_INIT and I don't understand how to improve my situation.

Can someone help me there ?

  • make on OpenBSD is not the gnu flavored one, try instead doas pkg_add gmake; gmake for when software blindly assumes gnu – thrig Aug 2 '18 at 13:57
  • Gmake was usel indeed, but then I get that : libtool: error: require no space between '-L' and '/usr/lib' gmake[3]: *** [Makefile:572: libforeign.la] Error 1 gmake[3]: Leaving directory '/usr/local/src/libvips/vips-8.7.0/libvips/foreign' gmake[2]: *** [Makefile:865: all-recursive] Error 1 gmake[2]: Leaving directory '/usr/local/src/libvips/vips-8.7.0/libvips' gmake[1]: *** [Makefile:659: all-recursive] Error 1 gmake[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/local/src/libvips/vips-8.7.0' gmake: *** [Makefile:564: all] Error 2 – 22decembre Aug 2 '18 at 14:09
  • I had no issues compiling this on a current OpenBSD system using gmake. Make sure that you have the libtool package installed too. – Kusalananda Aug 2 '18 at 15:58
  • I have libtool installed, running the latest snapshot, but not working. Makes no sense to me. – 22decembre Aug 2 '18 at 18:38
