I use Debian 9 with Xfce, amd64. After updating from 4.9.0-6 to 4.9.0-7 the lightdm service fails to start.

lightdm.log complains about:

Loading users from org.freedesktop.Accounts
User /org/freedesktop/Accounts/User1000 added
Process 650 exited with return value 1

NVIDIA: Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module...
No devices detected.

But the dmesg shown nothing suspicious about it.

Network drivers seem to stop functioning properly as I have no connection over Wi-Fi or Ethernet despite network-manager up and running.

I can however login into 4.9.0-6 successfully. What should I change in 4.9.0-7?

EDIT: As per recommendation, I installed kernel headers for the updated version and re-run Nvidia driver installer.

  • Have you installed nvidia driver manually? Then reinstall it. – Ipor Sircer Jul 23 '18 at 23:10
