I recently upgraded Debian Jessie to Stretch and noticed that hibernation is possible to do, but booting the laptop afterwards tries to load the saved state and then reboots afterwards.

I did not have any issue before the upgrade, on Debian Jessie, with hibernation/resuming.

Test with a newer kernel from backports, or with an older one (from jessie) to see if it's really a kernel problem. – Ferenc Wágner Jun 1 '18 at 19:27
