After much searching of the net, I am still unable to set the second monitor to the higher resolution I want (1920x1080).

Hardware: Intel ATOM x36/37 onboard GPU driving ASUS HDMI monitor and DELL VGA monitor (both monitor 23" high-def).

X -configure after stopping lightdm and fails: Number of created screens not equal to detected devices and the created x.conf.new is not anything like the examples on the net (see https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/877)

xrandr --addmode VGA-1 1920x1080 works for the session but not permanently

Xorg.log is available but long...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
