Recent Linux distributions started to disable these shortcut on hardly explainable reasons.

For other shortcuts (like alt/ctrl/backspace for stopping X) there is an easy commandline fix, giving the terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp option to the -option flag of the tool setxkbmap. However, setxkbmap doc seems to remain silent about the other very important shortcut: switching to the console with alt/ctrl/f1-f6.

How could I re-enable it?

I would prefer a shell command, without editing xorg.conf (which tends to disappear today, another new wonderful improvement of the recent distros).
