The default openvpn-server configuration file depends on systemd-networkd-wait-online, which times out with error:

systemd-networkd-wait-online[279]: Event loop failed: Connection timed out

My system has only 2 interfaces:

  • lo, which is ignored
  • eth0, is up and running and perfectly configured

Why does this times out? Is it a systemd bug?

It seems to be a bug because also other people have this problem (seen on google) but cannot find a bugfix at NEWS from systemd. I have the problem that a nfs share is only available when systemd-networkd-wait-online timed out after default 2 min. My workaround is to mask the service because it fails anyway:

~$ sudo systemctl mask systemd-networkd-wait-online

You may also have a look at A start job is running for wait for network to be configured. if you want to test only particular interfaces and not just to be general online on any interface.
