The settings for my linux mint OS have somehow changed automatically. The wallpaper has changed to default background, the mouse and touchpad settings are different, and I can't see the 'Computer' icon on my desktop either. I've tried restarting a couple times and in some restarts I've seen this message:

What seems to be the problem here?

user by any chance? By"... somehow changed automatically ..."
you mean you haven't touched configuration at all? Nothing happens automagically unless you e.g. did a system upgrade or changed something. – user13742 Jan 15 '12 at 17:18
