I'm using Gnome on Arch Linux and I want to change the language of GDM from English to French. I followed these instructions exactly but it didn't work...

Here is my locale:

LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=

But localectl says my system locale is en_US.UTF-8, which is pretty strange since echo $LANG gives me fr_FR.UTF-8.

Thanks for your help :)

EDIT: Here is locale -a's output:

C
en_US.utf8
fr_FR.utf8
POSIX

  • Can you post, as an answer, what exactly solved your problem? It's not very helpful to others (and for the quality of the site) to simply comment that your problem is solved without sharing with others what you did to solve it. – DaimyoKirby Aug 27 '15 at 23:03
