I have installed Arch Linux with Xfce4, I installed alsa-firmware, utils and plugins. I haven't installed PulseAudio. I have no sounds in my laptop at all :/ I have unmuted in alsamixer my speakers.

When I input this I have got sound:

cat /dev/urandom | aplay -f S32_LE -c 2

speaker-test -c 2

I created file /etc/asound.conf with:

pcm.!default {
     type hw
     card PCH
}

   ctl.!default {
     type hw
     card PCH
}

but it doesn't help. Here I paste output from cat /proc/asound/cards

  0 [PCH            ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
                       HDA Intel PCH at 0xb9614000 irq 28
  1 [HDMI           ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDMI
                       HDA Intel HDMI at 0xb9610000 irq 30

How can I fix my problem?

  • You don't need the asound.conf. And when speaker-test works, everything is fine as far as ALSA is concerned. Any problem you have is with whatever software you're using to play sounds, which you have kept a secret. – CL. Dec 8 '14 at 8:12
