This question already has an answer here:

After xubuntu updating the skype I am unable to launch the last.

sudo apt-get autoremove --purge skype

Erase /.Skype by graphic client

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ $(lsb_release -sc) partner"
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install skype && sudo apt-get -f install

result -
Unsuccesfully finished (SIGABRT) (core dumped [Memory Image saved])

Erasing /.Skype won't help, as you see.

  • Do you know what version of SkyPE are you using? SkyPE recently changed their servers so that older versions no longer work. I have 4.3 and it's working fine. – barrycarter Oct 26 '14 at 16:42
  • @barrycarter The apt-get install skype takes the last version, AFAIK. The problem is sooner not in skype version, but in Linux version, Xubuntu is a light version of Ubuntu and skype, due to MS politics supports only some of older Linux versions. But if I have to explain such things, I don't believe you can really help, sorry. – Gangnus Oct 26 '14 at 16:47
