This is is continuation of another post that is resolved now.

Now I am actually struggling to get the list of wireless networks available. The Intel 7260 appears to be installed and detected properly, but any attempt to join the ESSID named "mar" fails. I have tried using wpa_supplicant (see further in the question description).

Note that I am able to get a list of networks using iwlist scan but No results using wpa_cli list_networks (see further). Which doesn't make a lot of sense to me as this is all pretty new to me.

But most surprisingly whereas iwlist scan provides with a list of networks ??

# wpa_cli list_networks
Selected interface 'wlan0'
network id / ssid / bssid / flags

# wpa_cli status
Selected interface 'wlan0'
wpa_state=INACTIVE
address=00:15:00:bc:79:e2

UPDATE

# ps -ef | grep wpa
/sbin/wpa_supplicant -s -B -P /var/run/wpa_supplicant.wlan0.pid -i wlan0 -D nl80211,wext -t -ddd -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf -C /var/run/wpa_supplicant

# wpa_cli scan_results
Selected interface 'wlan0'
bssid / frequency / signal level / flags / ssid
f4:ca:e5:fe:60:d4   2457    -83 [WEP][ESS]  mar

f4:ca:e5:fe:60:d5   2457    -83 [ESS]   FreeWifi

But I am still not quite sure why list_networks returns no results (?) I must be misunderstanding usage.
