I'm using tape storage drive HP LTO3 1x8 auto-loader which is connected to my server running CentOS. it is detected in CentOS correctly.

Does anyone face this issue before and find a solution?

  • Isn't your device the SCSI changer that appears at the end? – vonbrand Jan 30 '14 at 14:28
  • @vonbrand its my device you can see output of lsscsi but i can't do read and write operation through scsi changer. – Vinay Gupta Jan 31 '14 at 5:47
  • What exact commands have you tried? What results do you get, what did you expect? If this really is some sort of tape changer, perhaps you need some specific command to handle it? – vonbrand Jan 31 '14 at 21:39

Your output shows that there is a tape changer on the bus. It does NOT show that there is a tape drive on the bus.

I've seen similar behavior previously when the drive in the tape library was faulty, or when the entire library was rebooted, and the changer came online before the drive itself.

If that's the same HP library that I'd previously used, drive failure DOES happen like this.

The other alternative is that you also seem to be running under virtualization, and it's not sure if your VM host is passing all the tape devices down to the VM.
