How to find different files in UNIX based on . extension?

How to find different files in UNIX based extension. Lets say suppose if iI have 100 files for each vamsi.log..vamsi-vamsi100.log.100, krishna.txt..-krishna100.txt, super.csv..., rajat.jpeg..., kiran.xml....-kiran100.xml and etc...My My requirement is if iI give command it'd only give how many different patterns do iI have in one folder. It should also deliver one for each extension. How can iI achieve this?

ls -ltrls -ltr gives all files. but iBut I need to know how many diffdifferent type of files there in one folder?
