comment What is the cheapest way to run AIX 6-7 at home?
FYI - you can get cheap (relatively) used POWER boxes. Specifically, you can look for POWER5+ systems, for example, p505,p510, which are low-power options that should run the latest versions of AIX6/7. HMC is not yet virtualized, so you could look into using IVM (integrated virtualization manager) if you wanted to virtualize your LPARs.

comment How to run the most recent command on AIX?
set -o vi for example will give you inline interaction with the command line using vi command mode. That said, ESC invokes the mode and you can use the standard hjkl movement keys as well as many of the other vi motion keys to move around and modify your command.

comment Which AIX command's output is this?
Depending on your storage backend (IBM/NetApp/EMC), there may be some vendor provided tools that will produce similar output.

comment What should a Linux Server Admin know about Solaris and AIX
One thing to note here too, while most of the commands remain the same, there are a large number of notable differences between the major versions. In my environment we have AIX 5-7, solaris 8-11, and huge number of versions of Linux. It's incredibly frustrating to script across those platforms as you can't assume anything. That said, the above Rosetta stone link was new to me. Thank to you ewwhite for posting that. I came from a Linux/AIX background, and needed to learn up on Solaris right quick.

comment Does AIX really beat Red Hat Enterprise Linux?
+1 You would be hard pressed to find a more stable environment than AIX on POWER 7 hardware.

comment Does AIX really beat Red Hat Enterprise Linux?
I agree with Chad. It isn't a fair comparison. If you're going to compare AIX to Redhat, then I would consider running tests against the current stable version of each. RedHat 3 is also no longer supported.
