comment if statement apparently not working in rsyslog
OK so basically it simply seems the mixed syntax doesn't work, even though the documentation on the official rsyslog site says that it should. :-)

How is it mixed syntax? Check out the RainerScript tutorial I linked to on the official rsyslog website; it says you can put the old syntax inside the new if clause syntax.

But that's not quite doing what I want; it's not including the conditions that the facility be daemon or local2.

"Probably" still there, but it may also have overwritten the old driver. /lib/modules/3.2.0-4-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/ethernet seems to have a bunch of directories for different manufacturers; I wouldn't be surprised if that realtek directory existed with the prior Debian install, with Debian's open source drivers.

As I told you before, I'll deal with the sound later. First I want to fix my networking!!!

I don't anymore, as I just realized there is a separate link for their audio driver. So this question becomes, "how do I get the default Debian driver back again?"
