@Caleb, the important bit from geekosaur is the 'Section "InputDevices" ... XkbOptions "altwin:ctrl_win" ... EndSection' in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. This avoids the ~/.Xmodmap not loading, rogue window managers, and xscreensaver cannot touch it.
