comment rsync, delete files on receiving side that were deleted on sending side. (But don't delete everything)
rsync won't let you do this, but if you scp the whole directory everytime you delete files you can keep them in sync, not a solution just a suggestion.

my system is old, that is why i was running an older version. I have Ubuntu 11.10 but the installation file runs unity by default because of which system hangs on installation.

tried running run level 3, worked, did a zypper update, it gave me a bunch of programs that wont be installed and said nothing to do. Any solution please?
