you can abbreviate the iptables options. --to is the same as --to-destination

comment reposync exclude subdirs from mirror
ok, i figured reposync would do it just because it's so well known. Bummer ! I'll look into your repoquery suggestion though, looks promising.

comment make reposync ignore /etc/yum.conf?
no joy. aside from all else, --disablerepo disables for the following yum operation, not a reposync one.

comment make reposync ignore /etc/yum.conf?
I thought of this, but how does that help ? both repos have the same name. In my case 'varnish'. I can disable both, then will reposync use the ones from my file regardless ? -- i'll go try it.

comment bash execute read command from file
For what it's worth, if this script is purely to rename files, there's already many very powerful tools out there to do such a thing.

comment What are the reasons Slackware still refuses to include PAM?
there's a recent version of slackware ? I thought they released once per lifetime, with the release shell scripts being passed down from father to son in the will.

comment Concern about logging in as root overrated?
I've never understood why people believe using sudo prevents mistyping commands. Last system i hosed a few years back was a sudo rm -rf /dir / job.

comment What is the fastest way to write all sectors on a drive?
try 4 or 8mb. my hunch is setting it to be whatever the drive's cache size is would be optimal.

comment How to keep track of installed software
Imho, the best approach is not to get into this state in the first place. Dictate that all software has to be packaged or it wont be installed, where needed make the package yourself. Then put these on your internal package server.

comment Distro for a startup?
My recommendation would be centos or debian, without selinux. fedora releases too often (and is cutting edge, read: often broken). suselinux may be an option, i've not used it in enterprise. My personal opinion would be centos, as debian installation is a little kludgy, i dont know how well it would work with san units and iscsi etc.
