comment What environment do I get with sudo?
@Gilles- Good point. I added my OS. I have only really noticed this on Fedora (I used to use Ubuntu), but I thought that was because they didn't add a lot of convenience setup.

Still didn't fix it. I tried adding a line to the end of '/etc/bashrc` and /etc/profile, neither of which changed the PATH output from sudo env.

Does sudo source /root/.bashrc? That's where I add /usr/local/bin to root`s path (I had to do this manually, unfortunately)?

sudo whoami returns root, like expected. What could be causing my sudo env to be different than my root env?

Cool, didn't know about that. Anyway, /usr/local/bin isn't in my sudo env, but it is in my root env and user env. Why is this?

comment Preparing a Linux image in a virtual machine
@Gilles- Thanks! This was exactly what I was hoping for. I assumed that I'd have to tune the config file, but I guess I can get a pretty generic one working if GRUB can read filesystems.

I don't see this on my Fedora install. Is man X intro not standard?

comment What is the difference between /etc and /usr/local/etc
@new123456- I personally like the idea of keeping config files close to the binary (e.g. /usr/local/bin -> /usr/local/etc), but conventions win in this case.
