comment RedHat:how to make system read /etc/sysconfig/clock settings without restarting system
I may be wrong but as far as I recall /etc/sysconfig/clock only sets whether the hardware clock is stored as UTC or local time. If you have no hardware clock, then it has no effect.

comment RHEL 7 Install - Main partition taking up entire allotted space + other problems
Humm, can you show the contents of /etc/mtab and /etc/fstab for both RHEL7 and, say, Mint

comment RHEL 7 Install - Main partition taking up entire allotted space + other problems
RHEL7 uses XFS instead of EXT4 by default. I would be very surprised if Kali or Mint mounted an XFS partition without you configuring it to do so.

comment Why does environment variables persistance breaks the PATH var
AIX's default shell reads /etc/environment.

comment How can I work with binary in bash, to copy bytes verbatim without any conversion?
Another reason not to go this route is that the resultant application will run significantly slower and consume more system resources.

comment Fedora 23 no longer bootable (GRUB: Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported.)
You probably do not need to reinstall GRUB2. It is probable that your UEFI NVRAM BOOT0001, BOOT0002, etc. variables are missing or messed up.

comment Create random data with dd and get “partial read warning”. Is the data after the warning now really random?
I am sorry but I disagree with your assertion that dd is a "cranky tool that is hard to use correctly" and "do not use dd". It is a perfectly fine utility when used correctly by somebody who has taken the time to understand it. Indeed disk forensic toolkits almost all depend on dd or a derivative such as dcfldd.

comment How shrink test -eq expression with more than one var value in /bin/sh
Actually POSIX is silent on the issue. The four arguments issue is only mentioned in non-normative text.

comment Why is windows launching instead of grub. Bad bios settings? Wrong boot loader location?
Your screen shots show you as having InsydeH20 firmware. It had exactly the same boot options?

Try replacing "infile" with "{} \;" and removing trailing "{}" in your example

comment Allowing GRUB to access network in BIOS mode
UEFI-based systems support a standardized structured network stack. BIOS network stacks if even present are vendor specific.

comment Why is nice-level ignored? (Between different login sessions — honoured if started from same session.)
Is your system heavy loaded or only lightly loaded?

comment Allowing GRUB to access network in BIOS mode
I do not believe that is possible in BIOS legacy mode.

comment Improve CentOS performance while saving
Are the disks local or networked? What type of disks? Are you using synchronous or asynchronous writes? We need more information.

comment Cron.d doesn't run my command
A nitpick. cron.d is a subdirectory whereas crond is a daemon.

comment How does a bootloader actually hand off to a kernel?
In the case of UEFI, the firmware boot manager can directly load the Linux kernel if the kernel is configured to enable it.. See EFI STUB documentation for more information.
