comment Vim - buffer names in the cmd line area
Are you using some plugin for buffer management? By the way, you could also show us your vim settings.

Are you sure you're running chmod +grx -R /a/b/c/d/e/folder? It's wrong, the right way to execute it is: chmod g+rx -R /a/b/c/d/e/folder

comment Is there a way to store Firefox passwords in a local encrypted database in Linux?
And also, independently of the way the passwords are stored, they are also very insecure because they may be viewed directly going to: Edit -> Preferences -> Security -> Passwords -> Show passwords. That option is with Firefox 3.x and also with Firefox 4.

comment How to extend my desktop to a second connected screen
Simple: because not always Fn-F5 works, and with the method I described you can position just as you need the screens you are using. I have a link to that script in my desktop, so that when I have the external monitor attached to my laptop, I can easily set up the screens (without it, the system just enables the external monitor and shuts off the one of the laptop).

comment Which laptop is most compatible with Linux?
I agree with this comment. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad SL400 (the model with Intel graphics) running Xubuntu and the only thing that does not work is the card reader for XD cards, wich in fact is something that does not exist for linux at all (as far as I researched less than a year ago). Bluetooth, Wifi, brightness buttons, HDMI, etc... working perfectly.

Do you mean holding down the shift key when selecting text? That's the way I do it with xterm.
