You mean if sudo test? Yes, that'd be better. I can't use test without the if, because it sets the exit code otherwise.

You should add this as an answer. I think when I tried it first, I didn't provide the key or something, so it didn't recognize the host.

OMG thanks. I used useradd, so that's why it was configured to sh. If you use adduser, it will be bash on Ubuntu.

Thanks, that makes sense. However, my ssh session is still broken. When I am logged in as user, it doesn't evaluate \u@\h \w as variables. I also can't use the up or down arrows, instead I see ^[[A.
