comment Hiding work in account with multiple users
If gpg is installed already you could use that to encrypt the data. gpg comes built-in to many *nix flavors (I'm assumong it's a *nix) so it may be usable. A last resort would be to attempt obfuscation with some other standard utility like uuencode or base64 but that's not real security.

comment Is NTFS under linux able to save a linux file, with its chown and chmod settings?
I've used NTFS-3g extensively and under heavy load with zero problems. I've even been able to delete files which for one reason or another could not be deleted from within Windows. As for using an EXT2 image, you can access EXT2 filesystems from Windows using Ext2 IFS (warning: EXT2 and EXT3 only, not EXT4!).

comment What would happen if a hard drive failed while the Linux kernel was running?
I remember a 'Unix Horror Story' where someone logged on as root executed rm -rf / and deleted almost everything on the drive. Strange things happened but they were able to concoct a repair on this still running but crippled system. It's an interesting read: macnugget.org/stuff/unix-horror-story.txt
