comment Log output of GNU screen in real time?
FYI calling logfile filename and logfile flush secs changes the behavior of gnu screen logging (i.e. where to save the logfile and what rate to flush to file)... but does not open the logfile and start logging. you still need to do log command or C-a H. Then you will see a message from gnu screen stating the log file has been opened at so and so filename.

comment Debian-Jessie: How do you check iptables status?
Under Fedora 20/21 with systemd when I list the services systemctl list-unit-files --type=service, I still see iptables and firewalld --> compared to Debian-Jessie when I run the same command I don't see any iptables or firewalld. NOT seeing iptables or some sort of firewall service is what confuses me.

comment Debian blu-ray and dvd both have 3 disks, what is the purpose of the blu-ray discs?
I like to install from media because then I can do multiple installs in <1 hour (install it one way... then learn something change my design/requirements... reinstall again... etc). Compared to the net installer which took about 4 hours for one install... over a 56mbps-tested connection.

I am downloading the bluray "BD-1" and it is now 21GB and still downloading. I have downloaded all the DVD 1 through 3 and they are only about 12 GB.

@FaheemMitha at one point I did have the link to the blu-ray but I switched to another machine. I must have forgot to put the links back in. Thanks for catching that!

comment How do you make apt-get install faster?
I google'd httpredir and from what I read httpredir just replaces the absolute URL in sources.list with a different URL. My /etc/apt/sources.list has deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ stretch main instead of http://httpredir.debian.org/debian so I don't think I have httpredir enabled.

I don't know what is httpredir and I am not sure how to check whether httpredir is on or off.
