comment Debian blu-ray and dvd both have 3 disks, what is the purpose of the blu-ray discs?
I like to install from media because then I can do multiple installs in <1 hour (install it one way... then learn something change my design/requirements... reinstall again... etc). Compared to the net installer which took about 4 hours for one install... over a 56mbps-tested connection.

I am downloading the bluray "BD-1" and it is now 21GB and still downloading. I have downloaded all the DVD 1 through 3 and they are only about 12 GB.

@FaheemMitha at one point I did have the link to the blu-ray but I switched to another machine. I must have forgot to put the links back in. Thanks for catching that!

comment How do you make apt-get install faster?
I google'd httpredir and from what I read httpredir just replaces the absolute URL in sources.list with a different URL. My /etc/apt/sources.list has deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ stretch main instead of http://httpredir.debian.org/debian so I don't think I have httpredir enabled.

I don't know what is httpredir and I am not sure how to check whether httpredir is on or off.

comment What is the purpose of the lost+found folder in Linux and Unix?
@syntaxerror the reason I arrived at this question was precisely because I was doing a find operation and find kept generating a Permission denied warning. Given this question's answer, I know that lost+found is part of the filesystem and so I can safely ignore the generated warning (but I do wish it didn't produce the warning).

i went to packages.linuxmint.com and click on Mint 17... the list doesn't even have gcc, g++, glibc, boost, etc... so where do they get those from?

I saw some info in wikipedia saying that Linux Mint did in the past use the Ubuntu repos. But I'm not about today's Linux Mint 17 and onward.
