@StephenKitt It only mentions Ubuntu; however there are some apt-cache policy lines that mention Mint, see update to question. Thanks.

Just to add: free, but not open source. The pro version is $199, and adds "Report Editor, Digram Editor, SQL Diff Wizard, Query Builder". (The free version seems to have just about everything else you'd normally need, though, and working with multiple DB engines is useful.)

comment Brother scanner and missing /dev/bus/usb entry?
@FaheemMitha Thanks for the ideas. brother4 was already in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf (and uncommented). I added myself to the scanner group but it made no difference.
