is Ctrl-F8 a KDE thing? or a fvwm thing? It doesn't seem to do anything on my machine...

comment How do I run a program in a fresh shell?
I'd really rather not have to save the env, wipe, reset to default env, wipe, and then reset to saved env. that takes too long.

comment How do I run a program in a fresh shell?
No, because ssh will revert the pwd to ~ which may mess other things up. Also, that requires either the user to type in the password, or an rhosts to be set up, and neither of those work for this setting.

I want the environment to be like a fresh shell (running .rc files) would be, ignoring any changes I had made to the environment. For other reasons, storing and restoring and un-restoring the env is messy.

No, I need to export the variables because the top level program is actually several programs that call each other.

comment $PWD variable equivalent of pwd -P
I'd rather not have to change the directory, I thought that there was a variable for this already.

comment $PWD variable equivalent of pwd -P
A command doesn't help any. If I wanted a command I could just use /bin/pwd or pwd -P. I want a variable.

comment Konsole works, gnome-terminal doesn't?
I'm not admin on the system, so I didn't compile anything. I'm accessing the system via a virtual computer system called No-Window, or NX. It's possible that NX isn't set up correctly, and so it breaks things... But how would that affect SGE?

comment Konsole works, gnome-terminal doesn't?
One possibly interesting thing is that the final call to futex appears to have an extremely small 3rd arg, and an unnecessary 4th arg...
