comment How to backup (make a copy of) LiveCD changes?
No, it is about backup of changes to booted up running live distro (I edited the question to be more precise).

comment How to backup (make a copy of) LiveCD changes?
The problem is not creating or selecting LiveCD / LiveUSB (thanks for the advice, @nwildner) with persistent changes (saved on hard disk or USB pendrive), the problem is backup of data from LiveCD I am using.

But from the above (just added) output, which is filesystem / device that is overlaid over squashfs?

comment Do I need root (admin) permissions to run userspace 'perf' tool? (perf events are enabled in Linux kernel)
FYI in Ubuntu perf is in linux-tools package, so installing perf there is simple.

comment What rescue disk (rescue CD/DVD) to recover data from failed HDD would you recommend for first time user?
Filesystems on this disk does not mount, so 'try copying the disk contents to a good disk' is a bit unhelpful advice; I'll try using rescue disk tools to recover dta to external disk.

I have turned off autosuspend for Logitech USB Receivier via powertop. Let's see if it helps (it certainly looks like it, for now).

comment Wireless mouse freezes frequently for a second on laptop, when on battery
@user827992: First, I can't find such setting in LXDE settings panels. Second, mouse hangs even when I am not typing for a longer time (mouse-only work, no keyboard).

comment How to analyze profile data from `perf record --a` (system-wide collection)?
Unfortunately using perf report fails to produce any useful output. I have added what it produces to the text of question. Perhaps I should try with newer perf?

comment How to analyze profile data from `perf record --a` (system-wide collection)?
I'm not interested (well, at least not very much) in analysing why it crashed, but I am interested in profile of this long-running calculations.

comment How to recover saved (stored) emails after damage to KMail configuration?
It is strange that KMail didn't use "atomic write" (write copy and rename)... though I am not sure if it would matter (the filesystem in question is ext3). Anyway, emails (in maildir format) are there - I have checked most recent file in ~/Mail/folder/cur and it is most recent email... nut it is not visible in KMail.

I do't think LXDE is on EPEL.

comment Package repository for which Fedora version would be best match for RHEL / CentOS / Scientific Linux 6.0?
I would have thought that RHEL / Scientific Linux being related to Fedore there wouldn't be much mismatch in packages between those two distributions. Anyway, regardless whether I'll use binary RPM from Fedore, or SRPM from Fedore, the question remains: how to find which Fedora would be best fit (though that probably matters less for SRPM, as it would be linked with current version).

comment Fail to install perf on slackware 13.1
Thanks. This allowed me to solve my isse with perf as well (though on Gentoo rather than Slackware, with kernel2.6.36-gentoo-r4)... though instead of modifying Makefile I just ran make with NO_LIBPERL=1 (though I do have libperl.so; I don't know why those errors either).

Nice. cat /proc/sys/kernel/perf_event_paranoid returns 1, so it seems that I would be able to take at least some measurements (BTW. whats the difference betwen "kernel profiling data" and "CPU event data"? Reference is enough)

comment Do I need root (admin) permissions to run userspace 'perf' tool? (perf events are enabled in Linux kernel)
I am asking this question to decide whether it is worth trying to install (as ordinary user, in $HOME) userspace part of perf tool (which is/can be non-trivial).

comment Installing Gentoo packages as an ordinary user (non-root)
Unfortunately from first browsing they do require good konwledge of Gentoo... and I am just beginning to use computer with Gentoo installed. As far as I have checked they lack step by step instruction. Still, I'll be trying.
