comment Sound is gone after booting system in text mode
@Benedictus A command line mixer is a program which allows you to perform the mixing functions (change volume, mix/choose signals, etc.) from a command line. alsamixer is one of the available command line mixers.

comment Why does my process take too long to die?
@AnirbanGhoshal I wasn't expecting deadlocks, but the table will have locking code to ensure different processes cannot make conflicting changes. No such luck with a semitimedrop, a process is an entry in a table to which resources may be allocated. Until all resources are released it exists. Even kill -9 will wait for resources to be de-allocated, but it is usually a very fast process.

@Benedictus It's been a long time since I used sound on a text only system. I did install a command line mixer. It should depend on or load the relevant devices.

comment IS there any way to send mail without relay server
@KALAISELVAN You can send mail without an MX record. Large organizations often use dedicated servers for outbound mail that are not listed as an MX. You can only receive mail without an MX record if the A record resolves to the IP address of your mail server. However, I would recommend using an MX pointing to a mail server's A record.

comment What is stopping our UDP packets (how does it know the route is down)?
@JohnU If you are accepting and dropping the packets, then I would be concerned you get the same behavior when you aren't dropping packets. Depending on your filter Wireshark may not be catching the ICMP packets.

comment Why and how is swap improving performance, and can I disable it?
@prakharsingh95 Things paged out to disk tend not to be frequently accessed. If they are using memory that would otherwise be used for frequently accessed, they may increase the I/O load (use of disk). This is trading off space used for swap for performance resulting from fewer waits for disk I/O.
